Disadvantages when compared to knotting.
- Twice the number of ends.
Advantages
- No backside or frontside.
- Starting mistakes are no problem. Double a little more and cut away the start.
- You don't need to wind your bobbins in pairs. So you can continue many projects with once fully wound bobbins.
Explanation of the overlapped sewing method in some books
- Flanders Lace, a step-by-step guide, by Mary Niven (only Flanders)
- Het lassen en aannaaien van kant, by Louise Allis-Viddeleer (any type of lace)
- The Beginning of the End, by Ulrike Löhr (general, no specific attention for Flanders)

It took almost a year between lacing and sewing. The lace could easily distort in such a period. So I did pull the pins from the pillow, but not from the pricking. |
|
For cutting I only left pins along the sides of the lower layer. Soft pulling then easy shows what to cut. |

The result of my very first attempt. I just didn't have a thinner thread of the same colour. |
